Denver Concrete Curb Installation
Drainage for most parking lots uses a curb and gutter system. Water management regulations require curb and gutter engineering to adhere to strict requirements at various levels of government. Depending on their location, curbs may also require compliance to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). They must also consider any regulations pertaining to bicycle lanes and other traffic flow issues. U.S. Pave Denver works within the regulations to ensure your lot is not only compliant but also cost-effective and attractive.
Curbs do an excellent job of defining the parking lot and holding the pavement in place. Asphalt, for example, tends to crumble along the edges. This can lead to water infiltration and accelerated failure of the paving. Vehicles crossing the edge make the problem worse. But with the curb and gutter in place, the driveway’s edge is protected from the pressures of vehicles and subsequent crumbling.
Building and Repairing Curbs
Curbs and gutters are usually constructed from concrete because it can be poured into specific forms and hold its shape. The gutter runs alongside the visible part of the curb, channeling water in a particular direction toward the storm drain. The curb itself is only partly visible. Nearly eight inches of curb extend below grade, creating an effective barrier between the parking lot and the road.
Properly installed curbs and gutters allow for drainage even on lots that appear completely flat. Even a small, expertly engineered slope can prevent water problems and meet regulations. U.S. Pave Denver installs curbs and gutters with asphalt paving that effectively drains into the required lot exit point. We can also install a catch basin that will connect to the storm sewer system and meet regulatory requirements.
Improperly formed curbs and gutters will not channel water correctly and may break the concrete down prematurely.
